As proud members of Concordia University's dynamic, strong and committed research and teaching community, we are concerned that the recent departure of the University President and other senior administrators has had a significant negative impact on the university_s reputation with the communities we serve. Whereas this departure has been enacted with a lack of transparency and accountability on the part of the Officers of Concordia University_s Board of Governors, at a special meeting called by the Faculty of Arts and Science Chairs, 14 January 2011, the 25 Chairs present unanimously agreed to a motion of non-confidence in the Officers of Concordia University's Board of Governors, and in the process that led to the President_s departure. We call for the initiation of a process by which the by-laws of Concordia University_s Charter, especially Article 32, be reviewed in order to revisit the powers of the Board and its relative powers and responsibilities in relation to Senate. We call for an increase in the faculty representation on Concordia University_s Board of Governors, and on the selection committee for the new President in order to ensure that faculty members are fully and fairly represented in the decision-making process. We present this motion in the spirit of moving forward in a positive manner, and with full confidence in the Concordia community of students, faculty, and staff.
